Program purpose:

 

House Bill 2978, passed by the 80th Legislature, authorized a new scholarship program for students enrolled in engineering. $800,00 has been appropriated for awards for Fiscal Year 2008.Even though funds have been appropriated for FY09, the amount that will be available for scholarships has not been determined. Awards of up to $5,000 may be awarded to individual students for FY2008.

 

To qualify this scholarship a student must :

 

  1. Be enrolled as a freshman in an undergraduate engineering degree program (CIP14) at a public university;

  2. have graduate high school in the top 20 percent of his or her graduating class;

  3. have graduated from high school with a grade point average of at least 3.5 on a four point scale or the equivalent in mathematics and science courses offered under the recommended or advanced high school program;

  4. 4.maintain an overall grade point average of at least 3.0 on a four-point scale at the general academic teaching institution in which the student is enrolled.
