Engineering Joint Program

Joining Together

The spring 2004 semester marked the start of a joint engineering program between Texas A&M University - Kingsville and Palo Alto College that hopes to build on the number of engineering graduates.

In the partnership, Palo Alto College students will have the opportunity to take engineering classes taught by A&M - Kingsville faculty. The Frank H. Dotterweich College of Engineering provides the state-of-art and modern facilities to aspiring engineers.

The following is a list of areas to be offered. Some of these courses be offered via TTVN, (distance learning) or on campus, depending on class enrollment.

Mechanical Engineering (MEEN)

Chemical Engineering (CHEN)

Electrical Engineering (EEEN)

Computer Science(CSEN)

Civil Engineering (CEEN)

Industrial Technology (ITEN)

Financial Aid Information for Concurrently Enrolled Students

Students may receive financial aid from one institution only in a given semester. They must choose which institution will be the home school, Texas A&M University - Kingsville or Palo Alto College, based on their degree objective. The school from which the student will be receiving financial aid is identified as the home school. the institution that is not disbursing aid is identified as the host school.

The student will follow these procedures at the host school:

  1.     At the host school, the student will register for classes and is responsible for paying tuition and fees in full.
  2.     The student will then bring the tuition and fees receipt to the Financial Aid Office and get a Letter of Consortium, which is then taken to the home school Financial Aid Office of the student.

The following procedure will then take place at the home school:

Once the Letter of Consortium has been processed at home school, the student's financial aid will then be adjusted after 12th class day. Financial aid awarded will reflect the student's total enrollment at both institutions and aid will then be disbursed as applicable.

You may visit or call Richard Silva at the Student Financial Services Processing Center. On the Texas    A&M Kingsville campus, you may visit or call Ms. Sharon Saenz at the Financial Aid Office in the Student Union Building.

Dr. William A. Heenan, professor and dean of the Frank H. Dotterweich College of Engineering at A&M- Kingsville, sees the joint program as a bridge for community college students to an engineering bachelor's degree.

Heenan says the joint program provides Palo Alto students with faculty and class work that will help make them more confident in proceeding with their engineering pursuits, and will offer students a smooth transition from a community college to a 4- year university.

Texas A&M University- Kingsville is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097: Telephone number 404-679-4501) to award bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees.
