The Department of
Mechanical and Industrial Engineering 

The ABET-accredited Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering is one of five departments within the College of Engineering, having an enrollment of about 180 undergraduate students and 90 graduate students. The department maintains excellent teaching quality, promotes research and scholarly activities, and enhances learning and the learning environment.

Mechanical Engineers are primarily involved in economical conversion of energy for power, light, heat, cooling and transportation; machine design; and materials science.

Industrial engineers are involved with devising economical methods of manufacturing productivity - finding out to get the most out of something while putting the least in.

   January 2008: Citgo Refinery in Houston presented $5000 to the department to use for undergraduate scholarships.
